Annual Community Events

  • Arbor Day Celebration

    The Maize Tree Board holds an annual Arbor Day celebration in April each year. Tree planting is a highlight of the event. The Maize Tree Board is instrumental in providing area citizens with valuable information regarding care of trees and other plant life.

  • Annual City Wide Garage Sale Day

    Maize has an annual City Wide Garage Sale Day each April.  Several of the sales also sell food and snacks. Citizens register their sale with City Hall and pay a fee, which covers the cost of advertising, maps, etc.

  • Fall Festival

    The Maize Lions Club hosts this annual event which includes a parade, car show, arts & crafts, games, car bash, food booths, featured carnival rides by Ottaway Amusements, the Maize Recreation Commission's Fall Tot Trot, lots of great raffle prizes,  and great live entertainment.   The latest schedule, list of sponsors, parade application, car show application, and vendor application are available on the Maize Lions Club website:  www.maizelions.com

  • Crisis and Suicide Prevention

    If you need immediate assistance, please call the Sedgwick County COMCARE Crisis Line at (316) 660-7500.  COMCARE’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) provides a safe, structured environment for out-of-home stabilization and serves as a community-based alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. At the CSU clients have access to clinicians and case managers who specialize in mental health crisis intervention. The twelve bed facility is located at 1720 East Morris in Wichita and includes two living room areas, a dining area, kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry facilities. The CSU is licensed as a Residential Care Facility by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services.

  • Sedgwick County Transportation (SCT)

    Providing transportation for individuals 60 years of age or older and persons with disabilities.   Rides for medical appointments, social services, banks, and grocery shopping.  Door-to-door (origination to destination).  Safe, friendly and affordable ($3 one-way trip (round-trip $6).  Visit https://www.sedgwickcounty.org/aging/transportation/ for more information and to apply.

Public Tornado Shelters are located in the basement of the Community Building at 401 S. Khedive and City Hall, 10100 W Grady Ave. Enter via the storm shelter entrance on the front side of the building near the flag poles.
