Crime Prevention and Safety

The Maize Police Department is committed to building a strong bond and partnership with citizens to reduce and prevent crime in Maize while promoting the over welfare and safety of our community.

Maize is a suburb of Wichita and, as such, is part of a larger metropolitan area.  While we enjoy an overall low crime rate, we encourage residents to practice the same principals of crime prevention found in larger cities.  These include keeping doors locked on both your home and your vehicles.  Keep your garage door closed when not in close proximity to it.  An open garage door, especially at night, is an open invitation to burglars.  Use outdoor lighting to illuminate areas around your home and vehicles at night.  Keep trees, bushes and shrubs trimmed to allow clear view of the front of your residence from the street.  Be educated!  Know what's happening in and around your neighborhood by tracking reported crime through Crime Reports.  Get to know your neighbors.  Have block parties and watch out for one another.  And, when you see anything you feel is suspicious, report it immediately to police by calling 9-1-1.
